Coronavirus (COVID-19): supplementary national child protection guidance updated version published December 2021

This guidance is for Chief Officers, professional leaders in children's services and child protection committees, who should ensure it is taken account of within local partnerships.

It supplements the existing national guidance for child protection in Scotland, and should be read alongside other COVID-19 guidance. It will be kept under review and updated.

Introduction

This website is for anyone who wants to know more about protection children.

The website has been developed by Glasgow Child Protection Committee.  In the website, you will be able to find information on what to do when concerned about a child, advice on when you might be worried about a child's safety and information on what might happen next.

You can also search the site for information about local and national services.  Professionals can find out about training and recent publications, as well as policies and forthcoming training events.

Keeping Kids Safe

Child Protection Committees Scotland's Keeping Kids Safe campaign urges everyone to look out for vulnerable children and young people at risk from neglect or abuse during the COVID-19 outbreak, and stresses the need for the public to join the efforts to protect children now that many of the usual safeguards are not in place.

All of us can help keep Scotland's children safe from harm, neglect or abuse by keeping our eyes and ears open. See or hear something worrying? Do something. Contact Social Work Services on 0141 287 0555 or Police Scotland on 101 (non-emergency) or 999 (emergency)

Thinkuknow is the education programme from NCA-CEOP, a UK organisation which protects children both online and offline. They have created a package to help support children and young people at a time when they are likely to be spending more time online. Families can download a pack according to their child's age, each pack will contain simple 15-minute activities parents can do at home with their child using Thinkuknow resources. The packs will be renewed fortnightly. The site also has advice for parents and carers.
