CPC statement on Lauren Wade Significant Case Review

Colin Anderson

Colin Anderson, Independent Chair of Glasgow's Child Protection Committee, said: "Lauren's shocking death and wilful neglect by the women who were supposed to love and protect her is an appalling tragedy. Their cruelty, deceit and avoidance of perceived 'interference' from outside agencies led to the innocent toddler's death.

"This heart-breaking case involved a number of different agencies and lessons have already been learned and applied through various dissemination and training initiatives.

"The CPC totally accepts the conclusions, key issues and learnings identified in the Significant Case Review.

"Measures have been, and will continue to be, put in place to improve information sharing between agencies and to ensure concerns about a child or children are identified and jointly acted upon at an early stage. We are committed to ensuring best practice is applied by all agencies citywide.

"Our Quality Assurance sub-group has in place a number of continuous improvement measures and regularly reports on progress to the Child Protection Committee.

"Child protection is a matter for everyone - whether it is lead professionals, extended family members, neighbours or the wider community.

"People should not be afraid to highlight their concerns to prevent a tragedy such as this ever happening again.

"On behalf of Glasgow City Child Protection Committee, I can reassure our communities that all such concerns will be fully investigated and appropriate actions taken."
